Kissing ovaries

Hello I was just wondering who had any experience could help, I recently got told I had kissing ovaries with endometriomas and was just wondering is surgery the only treatment for kissing ovaries? Can they go back to normal on they’re own or do you have to have surgery to unstick them? Any help appreciated 🙂

  1. hi . This is a good question! I'll weigh in with my experience while we wait for others to chime in. While I've never had "kissing ovaries," I did have surgery for endometriomas -- twice. The surgeon was concerned that the size of the cysts might cause complications without fast removal. For one, they said there was a risk of ovarian torsion (when the ovary twists on itself) and that the endometrioma might burst, which can be really painful and cause bleeding. They never actually told me if the endometriomas would go away without surgery, though. That's definitely something you should ask your doctor! And let us know what they say 😀 - Keri (endometriosis.net team member)

    1. I agree with Keri that you should check with your doctor, but I don't think that endometriomas shrink on their own. I had kissing ovaries and mine were wrapped behind my uterus and adhered to my uterus and also to my rectum. From my understanding in researching this specific phenomenon, it is a sign of advanced disease and usually signals stage 4 endometriosis. As Keri mentioned, complications can arise, such as torsion and rupture. I had endometriomas rupture multiple times and I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy. Even though surgery can feel scary and it is expensive, I am glad that I had surgery. I have seen a significant reduction in pain. I would not recommend ablation; excision is the gold standard and was the only thing that helped me get back my quality of life.
