Bowel endometriosis

Hi all, I am currently in the process of getting diagnosed for what definitely sounds like bowel endo. I have a colonoscopy in just over a week to confirm if this is the case and if it is then will be booked in for laparoscopy. Has anyone also got bowel endo? I also am aware that taking hormones seems to be the approach to control it which I really have been trying to steer clear from. I was on the pill for 10 years and my periods started getting worse with nausea / insomnia and other symptoms so I ended up coming off and have been off for 1 year and actually my periods seem to feel better however since November (when my periods returned) I experience rectal bleeding at the same time as my period. Surprisingly I don’t experience pain as such, more just a pressure in the rectal area and general normal period discomfort! I also had an ultrasound which picked up on a mass between my cervix and bowel and now these two organs seem to be adherent to one another.

Interested to hear other people’s stories with specifically bowel endometriosis
Thank you!

  1. If you have a endo on the bowel and they need to operate you will have a gastro surgeon, further the solution might be to resection the bowel i believe, basically take a section out and sew it back. think of a pipe, its hard to take part of the side wall of the pipe a repair it, its easier to cut that section out and join it. Full recovery is about 6months, in terms of regular bowel movements as scar inflamation causes you to go more often. also your bowel becomes technically smaller, so expect to go more often.
this will not be done with Lapro, it will be done through a opening. Also ask the Surgeons removing the other endo from the peritoneum if they are using ablation or Excision.

    1. Hi, I am currently waiting to see a colorectal surgeon at the moment as well. I am on the waiting list for a hysterectomy and they are wanting to know if I need colo intervention during the op as it’s suspected I have endo in my bowel/sigmoid colon.
As is often the way with Endo regardless of what country you live in, there is a drive towards hormonal treatment but the main thing to remember with bowel/colon/rectal Endo is that hormonal treatment will not remove or shrink it once it’s in there so having it identified and removed is probably the best way to go eventually if it is causing you problems.
I wish you all the best with your investigations and hope you get a good result 👍 ( well as good as we can hope for with Endo! 🫡 ) xx
