How to Support Your Partner This Endometriosis Awareness Month

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a chance for people with knowledge and experience of endo to raise awareness amongst the general public and increase the visibility of this prevalent but little-known condition. Many people involved in the endometriosis community, whether that be charities, women’s health companies or social media influencers, will be hosting events and sharing information with their audiences – but its shouldn’t end with them. This is also an opportunity for the loved ones around an endo patient to do their big in promoting awareness and understanding of the disease.

Here are a few ideas for what we can do to help our loved ones raise awareness this March:

Spread awareness among women, and men

Much of raising awareness involves spreading the word, and not just to women who endometriosis affects, but the men in their lives too. It’s important that men are a part of the conversation too – it is only with a mutual understanding and dialogue that we can work together and get endo patients the support they need. Spread your endo knowledge through word of mouth to friends and family, but also on social media by sharing articles like ones from this site, and links to other events and campaigns people are running throughout March.

Plan a fundraiser

Planning a fundraiser is a great way to raise awareness of the condition, at the same time as raise important funds for charities and organizations supporting those with endometriosis and funding research into the condition. In the United Kingdom, we have the London and Brighton marathons, and there are many similar events across the world. Or if you want something less physical, host a sponsored gaming night, charity auction, or party (check out Endo the Night, a fundraising model from Endometriosis UK). Get together with your friends and do something fun while raising money and awareness for endometriosis.

Participate in local events

As well as hosting and planning events yourself, be on the lookout for other fundraisers and events going on in your area. There is a small and discreet, but very active endometriosis community all around the word – all it takes is a bit of looking. Search for Endometriosis Awareness Month events in your area to see if there’s anything you can take part in. Suggest volunteering your time or skills to help organize these events, and help make them something special that everyone will remember.

Make a donation

If you want something a bit simpler and less time-consuming, don’t look past a good old-fashioned donation to your local endometriosis charity. Money greases a lot of cogs in the world we live in, and is often in short supply, and much needed in the charity sector. A donation, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated.

There are plenty of ways to raise awareness for endometriosis this March, and this list is just the tip of the iceberg. Get creative and make it personal. The more people involved in making endometriosis part of the conversation, the quicker it will get the recognition it needs and the support it deserves.
