My surgery is next week

Hiya,

I have my surgery next week on Monday.

My symptoms started about a year ago. I started getting really painful periods, whenever I would go to the toilet (number 1) particularly my insides would feel like they are squeezing and something is stabbing me. I couldn't stand up on many occasions after going. Coughing and laughing would also make it hurt so so much. This went on for a couple of months. I haven't been on any contraception for 3 years now. Chose to come off for my mental health. After a few months I started getting horrible pain in my shoulder. I thought it was a trapped nerve the first time but no stretching would help. It took 4 months for me to notice that the pain always coincided with my period. It comes on the day of or before I start and goes on all the way through. My periods haven't changed, they are no lighter or heavier. The pain in my pelvis is still there, it dulled for a while but has come back in recent months. I've also started having trouble breathing during my period, getting sharp pain in at the bottom of my right rib cage when I breath in deeply and shooting up my chest. The pain in my shoulder (its always my right shoulder) runs down my arm too and into my elbow and wrist making it hard to do things. This month, for the first time, I've come off my period, had a few days of no blood but the shoulder pain continuing in the background. Now I'm in a lot of pain in my shoulder like when I'm on my period and I've got spotting which I've never had before to the point I've put a pad on to stop it ruining all my underwear!! It makes me so low, the pain, and I already struggle with my mental health. I had an ultrasound and the women said I had a bright mass on my right ovary and my ovaries where pulled in towards my womb. Ibuprofen used to help but it doesn't seem to be helping anymore. Paracetamol doesn't touch it.

I'm not sure what I'm hoping for out of writing this. Maybe someone to say they've experienced similar? I'm overthinking it all now and wondering is it endo at all or something else.

  1. First of all, I want to wish you luck with surgery! I hope it all goes well. Second, it is not out of the realm of possibility to have endo in your shoulder or back. I would bring it up to your doctor, if you haven't already. If they are not well-versed in endo that occurs outside of the pelvis, I would look into doctors who do. I don't have anyone to recommend, but perhaps someone else here will. You can also use Nancy's Nook doctor finder: https://nancysnookendo.com/find-a-doctor/. ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate

    1. Thank you for replying I appreciate it. Unfortunately it has now been cancelled. I've been have bleeding outside my period for the last week or so with my shoulder pain continuing. Something prompted me to take a pregnancy test yesterday and it was positive. I'm seeing a doctor today about the pain. It's so frustrating I won't lie. I'm happy of course, but I'd got myself emotionally ready for the surgery and now it's just not happening.

      1. oh goodness. Congratulations on the pregnancy Emily! I am sorry you can't get your surgery right now but hopefully your doctor can help you figure something out to handle the pain 🙁 I know it is probably so exciting and so frustrating right now. Please keep us posted on what they say at your appointment. Sending you gentle hugs and good thoughts! -Kimberli (advocate)

    2. Hi , thanks for replying. I've had an internal scan and no sign of a pregnancy and a blood test shows 55 iu/L. Got another Saturday to see what changes. Just in complete limbo!

      1. how did you test on Saturday go? Were they able to give you more answers as to what is going on? -Kimberli (advocate)

    3. My hcg changed to 61.8iu/L and my progesterone went up to 11.2 from 7.1. I've got another one this afternoon to see if anything changes again and what happens next. I've spoken to my hospital this morning and my 'NHS clock' is nearly up for the surgery with them but they are going to try and pause it so when I know what's happening I can still hopefully get it done with them. Been doing pregnancy tests each day and yesterday they were very faint in comparison to the days before but today's was a bit stronger again so not sure what to make of things at the moment.

      1. I am very sorry. I know all this back and forth and up and down must be exhausting and frustrating. I am glad they will try and pause the surgery a bit longer for you so that you can get this all worked out. I truly hope you are able to get some answers. Please continue to keep us posted. Thinking of you and continued good thoughts and prayers being sent your way <3 -Kimberli (advocate)
