pins and needles sensation

Hi there,
I've recently been diagnosed with endo after 7 years of chronic pelvic pain. Since my pain started my lower abdomen becomes severally inflamed and i get a pin and needles sensation that runs all the way down my legs, i am wondering if anyone else experiences this and what they do to manage it?
thank you so much,
Beth

  1. Hi Beth, I'm so glad you've shared your story here. Leg pain is pretty common for people with endo. Some people do describe the pins and needles sensation that you have. Here are links to some articles on our site that talk about leg pain and some ideas on how to manage it. And of course if you haven't already, let your doctor know about the sensation you're having. A gynecologist with experience in dealing with endometriosis may have some other treatment ideas for you, or you could try a pain specialist. Endo is complicated, so finding a knowledgeable medical team to support you can make a big difference.
You mention that you've recently received a diagnosis after 7 years--you've had a long journey. Please know that you are not alone! We'd love to hear how things go for you. Take good care of yourself! -Audrey (endometriosis.net team)

    1. It is good to hear from you, Beth. Talking about one's symptoms is an enormous step towards acceptance. It gives credence to your physical sensations and the emotional part of your specific diagnosis.

The "pin and needles" sensation that you describe is likely related to the nerves in your spine. Because endometrial lesions like to stick within the pelvis and the pelvis is right next to the spine, the nerves get a little upset with all of the congestion there and can create this sensation.

      I like what

      1. Continued post!! I like what Dr. Audrey Sheridan suggested and the articles she referenced. You might also want to try using a TENS unit on either your lower abdomen or your lower back. The science behind this is that the electrical impulses created by the TENS unit provide another stimulus to the nerves and can distract the brain from feeling the pins and needles sensation that you currently report.
