Bowel issues and endo

Does anyone suffer chronic with bowel flare ups of pain, constipation, loose stools and extreme cramping? This is something I have suffered with along side my endo and I do think it’s connected. What are everyone’s experience? Do you need a separate diagnosis with the bowel issues or is it commonly known when having endo in the uterus/womb to suffer with your bowel? I try speaking about it to family but I sometimes feel like they don’t take me seriously.

  1. Hi . It's not uncommon to suffer from irritable bowel syndrome along with endometriosis, but it's still best to see a gastroenterologist to be sure. You never know if you might be suffering from something with similar symptoms that requires different treatment, such as Crohn's disease or diverticulitis. Best to play it safe. Here is an article about the connection between endometriosis and IBS that might interest you: https://endometriosis.net/clinical/ibs-statistics. You could also share the article with disbelieving family members. Sometimes, people are more receptive when they get that kind of information from another source. I hope this helps and that you get some relief. Warmly, Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hey ! I hope you’re doing ok 🙂 I thought I’d take the time to talk about my experience, as it may shed some light on what you’re going through. I have always suffered with bowel issues and put it down to IBS. I noticed that around my period I would suffer with constipation. Around a year ago (following a hospital admission and an MRI) I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis. I was told that the Endo had caused a blockage on my left kidney - and that it was impacting other organs including my bowel. I have just had a Laparoscopy and Excision (of Endo), during which I also had to have a Bowel Resection. It is possible that the Endo is impacting your bowel and that this is resulting in the symptoms you’re experiencing? I would urge your Consultant to request an MRI as this is the best way of determining how widespread your Endo is and what treatment would be best. I hope this helps x

      1. Hey YES, I've had bowel issues my entire life, fluctuating between constipation, to loose stools, lots of bad cramping esp with menstruation. I've done so many different IBS diets, taken probiotics, candida diets, endo belly diets, taken all sorts of powders and supplements... It turns out that I do have endometriosis quite badly and that it's grown into my sigmoid colon and filling up the cavity between my uterus and intestines... this does not help! So it might be a combination... Would have it checked out with MRI. Good luck and much love.
