Pain post-op

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to learn more from others about their experiences with pain after keyhole removal of endometriosis.

A couple of years ago, I had appendicitis which went undiagnosed and ruptured in casualty. After it got removed (reportedly “very messy”) I had to have a secondary operation (a bowel resection) as my bowel had adhered to my pelvis due to the rupture, and it had partly died.

Years on, my pelvic pain is still debilitating. I just had another surgery for endometriosis. I was diagnosed with stage 4, although my surgeon since said that it could have possibly been stage 2, as potentially some of the scarring was from the issues described above, in addition to endo.

I’m now in my fifth week post-op endometriosis surgery, and the pain is definitely the worst it’s been in my life. I only get about 4 hours per day which is free of the debilitating cramping. I’m writing this at 1am as it’s impossible to sleep with what feels like constant bad period pain, every day.

I’ve been back to my specialist who said he doesn’t think the pain was caused by endometriosis then, and said I was a confusing case, but I don’t have any direction from here.

I’m sharing this in hope that some of you my have experienced similar debilitating cramps for at least one month after surgery? And that it eventually subsided? 🤞

Thanks everyone.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear that this is your experience and that you didn't receive much help from your specialist. I had pain for several weeks after surgery, but nothing like what you are describing. I'm assuming you have things in place to help you manage the pain? It sounds awful. If not, I would encourage you to go to your PCP to try to get additional support for the pain. You shouldn't have to suffer like this. And if it continues, I would also suggest speaking to another doctor to get a second opinion. I hope you find relief soon! ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate
