Mefenamic acid and acid reflux

Hi guys, I’m on the journey to finding out what the f is wrong with me (still awaiting my hosp appt). I was recently prescribed cocodamol for pain and it did absolutely NOTHING. I have been on tranxeamic acid, northeristerone the lot and nothings got better.

I suffer with extreme acid reflux which causes me to have reoccurring throat problem and have been taking omeprazole everyday because of this. Anyway, the only option left for me is mefenamic acid which is known to be bad for acid reflux. The dr told me to take 2 omeprazole a day when taking but this is gonna just cause me more problems.

I guess what I’m asking is, is taking mefenamic acid worth it for the pain? I was on the highest dose of cocodamol and I was still in severe agony.

If mefenamic acid don’t work I’m really at a loss with what to do as there aren’t any other options. I won’t go on the pill or anything as have been on these things before and they caused me bad side effects.

Thank you guys!! Xx

  1. Hi there. I don't have any advice sadly, I do someone who has experience with this medication can chime in. But I did want to say I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this. I have horrible acid reflux. Do you notice if your acid reflux seems to happen no matter what or only when you eat certain things? Changing my diet has been helpful for me in keeping my acid at bay.

I will say, if you think the medicine will help, it may be worth to try it out. Or maybe get a different opinion from another doctor maybe? I wish I could be more of help for you <3
