Helpful Supplements

Intent - provide info on my endometriosis story & what worked for me. I'm well into menopause now but have always wanted to help other women suffering from this awful issue. My Mom & both sisters had it all their lives & ended up having scrapings & eventually hysterectomies. I didn't become symptomatic until early 20's when periods started to become painful, extremely heavy (big chunks of tissue), with frequent spotting & irregular cycles. Some months it was like I got two periods. I used to start ibuprofen for the pain on the days when it was unbearable. If I took aspirin versus ibuprofen, I would bleed through max absorbent tampons & leak down my legs. First supplement was a lucky find as I didn't take it for anything to do with my menstrual issues. I added 600mg Calcium per day to make sure I had enough because I was lactose intolerant. This made the severe cramping during menstruation cease to the point I didn't need to take any ibuprofen. Not saying this will help but even if it helps someone, it's worth a try. Plus calcium is so important for bones, teeth, everything else! The endometriosis didn't respond to this, just the cramping. The second supplement - again a lucky find was melatonin. A colleague suggested it for insomnia. I started taking 3-5mg before bed. It didn't help with insomnia but after a couple of months, it eliminated all the menstrual issues from endometriosis. I experimented to verify that it was actually the melatonin by stopping for a couple months & the endometriosis worsened until I resumed the melatonin. Also found that I needed at least 3mg per day as 1mg or 2mg dose didn't help. Anyway I hope someone will benefit from this info. I know first hand how quality of life can be messed up with endometriosis.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! How kind of you to jump in here and share what helps, especially now when you are in menopause. You are right that not every treatment will help everyone, but it's worth sharing even if it helps just a few people. I hope you will stick around and share your insights about other aspects of endometriosis. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
