First Laparoscopic Surgery: what to expect

Hello All,

I’ve finally convinced my doctors to get me in for a surgery to see what’s going on after a particularly horrendous flare up a few weeks ago. I’m trying to figure out when to schedule it as my work life is hectic (stress definitely a contributing factor) and I’m not sure what folks have experienced in terms of recovery. And advice would be appreciated. Thank you! ❤️

  1. My recoveries have taken between three and six weeks, and after my last excision it was more like two months before I was back to baseline. I also have stage 4 endo and my last surgery was particularly intense, plus I have likely hypermobility syndrome and I also have MCAS, so those factors likely slowed my healing. I would definitely plan on taking several days to rest and allow your body to heal before jumping back into activities and work. ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate

    1. Hi there Jessica! Firstly, so happy to hear your doctor has agreed to surgery. I do hope you are able to get more answers and some relief as well. So, I have had 4 surgeries so far. Each one mainly for endometriosis but other things had popped up as well. So each recovery has been different. In general, it is about 2 weeks. However, depending on how intense it is/what they do, it could take anywhere from 2-6 weeks like Katrina said. My last surgery took about 2 weeks but the one before that took about a month and a half (I had a lot more done). I would give yourself at least 2 weeks to fully rest. Sometimes, even though we may be feeling better and our incisions aren't as painful, your body is still healing. So you need that time to recover <3 Here for you if you have any more questions or need to chat. Sending good thoughts and hugs your way! -Kimberli (advocate)
