Rectal bleeding during period

Hey I’m new to all of this and I wondered if anyone had experienced rectal bleeding during periods ?

  1. hi there Felicity. So sorry you are dealing with rectal bleeding 🙁 that is absolutely no fun. I have not experienced
rectal bleeding during my periods but do experience a lot of rectal pain. Of course I am not a medical doctor so I can't
diagnose you or tell you for sure what's going on but, in my experience with other endometriosis warriors, sometimes rectal bleeding
during periods can mean endometriosis on the bowels. I know there are so many other things as well that can cause
it, constipation, fissures or even hemorrhoids. Have you talked to your doctor about this yet? I would definitely suggest bringing it
up to your GYN, seeing a GI or seeking out an endometriosis specialist! It may end up being you need to seek out all
three. Endo on the bowels can be a tricky one to diagnose if they don't know what they are looking for. I do hope you are
able to get some answers. Please keep us posted and know you can reach out anytime you need, we are here for you.

    1. Hi Kimberli

Thank you so much for your response. The bleeding is only ever when I have my periods so I think that possible rules out constipation, fissures or hemorrhoids but I am so doctor so these are deffo areas or look into. That’s good to know that endometriosis can be on the bowel, probably a silly question but can it start there or will it have always started in the womb ares and then spread? I have been recalled back to the hospitals after my mammogram showed up something so I’m going there this afternoon to see what it is that’s showed up, am i right in thinking that endo can cause dense tissue in the breast area ?

      1. I would definitely think of asking for a colonoscopy to 100% rule out fissures, hemorrhoids, etc. And not a silly question at all, endometriosis is so tricky. I don't know for sure to be honest - but I feel like it can really start where ever it feels like for sure. For me, when I had my first surgery, it was already in all sorts of different spots. So it was hard to really say where it started first and spread to. How did your mammogram go? Do keep us posted if you can. From my own personal research, I don't know if endometriosis itself causes dense tissue in breasts. But that is definitely something to chat with your doctor about when you get the results. Like I said, endometriosis is tricky and I feel like anything is possible with it at this rate! Hugs! --Kimberli (advocate)

    2. While I can’t say for sure what’s going on with your rectal bleeding, I’ll chime in with my experience. I get a lot of bleeding before or during my period in areas like my nasal passages, gums, and sometimes rectum. My doctor tells me this is because of hormonal changes, not because I have endo in my nose, mouth, or bowels. As a result, I notice bright red blood sometimes when I have a normal poop. To make matters worse, sometimes my cycle slows down my bowels. That means it’s a little harder when it comes out, which can tear my rectum a little. What I’ve done to help is make sure I get plenty of fluid and I eat 1-2 kiwi a day (it helps soften poop says science!). And sometimes I’ll use an osmotic stool softener like Miralax.

As for dense breast tissue and endo, I haven’t heard of that being a common connection. But that’s not to say it doesn’t happen! - Keri (team member and advocate)
