Orilissa

Hi, I just saw a gynecologist that specializes in endometriosis & wants me to take Orilissa. Anyone currently taking it? Looking for pros & cons while on the medication. I already have the hot flashes & night sweats since I’ve begun menopause. I just can’t imagine them getting worse.

  1. - hi! Just wanted to say thank you for being here and for reaching out. Hopefully a few others can chime in here as well. I have not had experience taking it. I have known so many who have tried it and had horrible side effects. It's just not a drug I want to take. But, there are people out there who find it helpful as well. But here are a few community articles about Orilissa that may be helpful.

    1. I am on Orlissa but will be off it soon because I had surgery. I would ask the specialist how long you should be on it for. The doctor that prescribed it to me saw it as a long term treatment. Of its short term, 6 months to max of 2 years, its great.

      1. that's a great question to bring up - thanks so much for sharing! How are you feeling since your surgery? - Margot, Endometriosis.net Team

      2. I feel so much better since surgery. The Orlissa has shrunk some of the Endo and my endometrioma. But hands down I feel 1000x better getting the disease removed, rather than suppressed with Orlissa. Good luck, I hope your treatment plan goes well.

    2. I was on it for the full two years. I would say when I did start it I was experiencing some of the side effects that make you not want to be on that drug but it honestly helped my endo pain so much it stopped by periods. As I see you’re going through menopause that issue won’t affect you but the pain itself should suppress. The side effects I did have were mild and the results from the pill for the endo was worth staying on it for as long as I did. I hope it helps if you do decided to give it a try. Just not like all new pills it can take up to three months to get the actual results of what you want.

      1. thank you so much for sharing your experiences here - glad to hear that it helped you feel better! Best, Margot, Endometriosis.net Team

    3. Hi everyone, thank you for all the advice on Orilissa. I ended up taking it for about 2 weeks, but I had terrible side effects. My Endo specialist had me stop taking it & scheduled a complete hysterectomy to remove the disease. Unfortunately, because I need other specialists besides the Endo the earliest they could coordinate their schedules for surgery is on June 30th. The scar tissue has adhered to just about every organ in my pelvic region. It will be done laparoscopic with robotic assistance. My doctor told me it will be an easier recovery. I will admit having surgery makes me quite a bit nervous, but the pain hopefully will go away completely or at least become mild.
