Advice

Hello I was wondering, my periods have suddenly only been a day or 2 long has anyone else experienced this? They’ve never been the same every month sometimes they’re 7 days sometimes they’re 3 weeks but just recently I’ve had some that have only been 2 days maximum. I got told I had kissing ovaries and multiple endometrioma cyst and I just wondered if this had anything to do with them
Becoming shorter?

  1. This coincidentally happened to me a few weeks ago! I don't have kissing ovaries. But my cycle has been very irregular over the past year, and my last period came out of nowhere (I'd just had my period 13 days prior) and only lasted about a day and a half. I called my regular doctor because this has never happened before. She said there are so many different reasons why a menstrual cycle (the time between periods) and bleeding itself would be shorter than usual. One is physical or emotional stress. Another is perimenopause (I'm 41). But she said ovarian/endometrial cysts could definitely affect things, and I'm going to have an ultrasound with my OB/GYN to check things out. I also had my thyroid tested (it's normal) since that can cause irregular periods. In the meantime, my doc told me to let her know if I ever have bleeding so severe I have to change a tampon every hour and to check in with her if my symptoms continue for 3 cycles or longer. I definitely think this is something worth bringing up with your doctor. Keep us updated! Keri - team member

    1. I agree with Keri that this is worth bringing up to your doctor. I had kissing ovaries and recurring endometriomas but did not experience having shorter periods. As I went into perimenopause, I did experience fluctuations in the number of days and symptoms during my periods. Let us know what you find out! ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate
