Period with endometriosis

Hello! I am new to this page and wanted to see if my experience has happened to anyone else. I was diagnosed with endometriosis at the age of 15 and have had 2 surgeries since, with my last one being in 2016. I have been on depo-provera birth control for 6 years now, with no periods since. My symptoms have been well managed since my last surgery and being on the depo shot. I recently got my period for the first time in many years and wondering what and how this could be. Looking for advice and similar situations, what could be happening!? side note: I am waiting to get an appointment to see my doctor for their professional opinion.

  1. Hi and welcome to the community! We're really happy to have you here with us! While we are not medical professionals and cannot give medical advice, I can tell you that I used to (changed my b.c. method for different reasons) be on the Depo shot and would get a random period with cramping every once in a while. I was on that method for about 3 years. My physician called it breakthrough bleeding and was just more of an annoyance for me. I ruined a lot of underwear during those 3 years, unfortunately. I would definitely ask your physician for their professional opinion. Good luck and keep us posted! Again, welcome to the community. We're really glad you're here with us! 💛 Kayleigh, Endometriosis.net team
