Not sure if this is a symptom or not

So I’ve had this for years now and it’s one of my most embarrassing things, I’m not sure if it’s connected to my endometriosis but it would be interesting to know on here if anyone else has the same. Its something I’ve been really self conscious and embarrassed about . I have really bad wee leakage, like when I need a wee I can’t hold it it just comes out no matter where I am, also if I laugh cough sneeze it just shoots out, sometimes I can stop it but if someone really makes me laugh or im desperate for the toilet there’s no chance. It’s really embarrassing and I always have to think about where I am
And what clothes I’ve got with me. Im 26 so it makes me self conscious as none of my friends have it

  1. hi there! Firstly, just wanted to say thank you so much for being a part of the community and for your question. We are so sorry you are dealing with this. We know how it feels to have symptoms that are embarrassing to us because we feel as though no one other is dealing with them! I want you to know, you are not alone here. A lot of women experience this. I even have experienced this a few times myself. Have you talked to your doctor about this? I think that would be a great first start to kind of see what could be causing this. Here are some articles that may be helpful as well, https://endometriosis.net/symptoms/bowel-bladder-problem https://endometriosis.net/living/bladder-incontinence

There could be just so many reasons as to why you may be experiencing this. So, I definitely think checking in with your doctor is a great start. Hopefully some others here in the community can share their experiences as well. But I do want you to know that you are not alone <3 And you should not feel embarrassed. I know, easier said than done but more people can relate to this than you could even imagine! Sending you the biggest of hugs. Reach out anytime you need us, we are here for you. -Kimberli (advocate)

    1. I totally understand how you feel; incontinence is so stigmatized in our culture. And lots of people go through it...I had this issue after my last surgery and I wore cloth period pads to help with leakage. I echo Kimberli's suggestion to chat with your doctor. In the meantime, have you considered incontinence underwear? It's similar to period underwear and could help you feel more secure. Several brands make it. I hope you're able to find some answers to why it's happening so you can manage it. ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate

      1. I am so glad you wrote in! I am a pelvic floor physical therapist and I treat people with incontinence of all ages! What is typical for a person with endometriosis is that the pelvic floor muscles which control urination tend to be very tight.

That said, what CAN happen is that the bladder ushers out urine at inopportune times because the muscles controlling it are in constant spasm. Many people thing that weakness results in urinary leakage, when it is usually muscle tension.

Try to find a pelvic floor physical therapist near you and see if this may be true for you. Also, drinking plenty of water can PREVENT urinary leakage. Another tip is to avoid artificial sweeteners, carbonated beverages and caffeine. Sending support!
