Getting a Diagnosis

Hi all

I have had various symptoms for almost 10 years, from heavy periods, IBS, pelvic pain, back pain ,bloating, acne cysts, and irregular periods. I also had a really painful lump in my belly button which also has links to endo. I spoke to my GP who referred me for a scan which showed nothing. I was then referred to a gynaecologist who refused to continue the investigation because I don’t rate my pain as excruciating or interfering too much with my normal life. However, not knowing for definite if I have Endo is having an impact on my daily life. I analyse every little symptom and now that I’m also trying for a baby it’s even worse.

Has anyone had a similar issue? If so how did you overcome this?

  1. Hi , thank you so much for sharing your experience here. It sounds like the not knowing what is causing your symptoms is causing you distress--I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this. This story of a doctor that dismisses symptoms is sadly one that is common for people with pelvic pain. You may or may not have endometriosis, but clearly something is going on and deserves the attention of your care provider--especially since you are trying for pregnancy. A normal scan is good news--there's no big cyst, for example-- but endometriosis (and several other causes of pelvic pain) may not show up on a ultrasound. If you haven't already, you could see a different gynecologist for a second opinion. It may help to find one who has a lot of experience in dealing with pelvic pain. Your GP may know of someone in your community who is more likely to listen to you, or try the Nancy's Nook Facebook group. And here's a link to an article with some tips on finding an endo specialist.
