Is it coming back already 4 months post surgery?

Hi all. I am hoping someone can help me. I am 29 and I was diagnosed with stage 3 endo, and had surgery to remove it at the end of June. It had spread to my bladder and bowel, so I am at stage one now but refused the hormone treatment to clean up the remaining endo.(Hormones make me severely depressed). I have had 4 periods since the surgery, and each one had gotten so much better. I couldn't believe my luck. Would you believe me if I said last month I hadn't even the slightest cramp?

That gets me to this morning. My 5th period post surgery. The pain woke me up just as it used to pre surgery and within an hour I was crying on the floor. It wasn't a 10 where I pass out, but it was definitely a 7 or 8. I am so upset all day. Does this mean my endo is back? Can it come back that soon? Or can I still be recovering.. I know the surgery wasn't going to cure me, but was I silly to think I may have a few years of little to no pain ?

  1. Hi - just checking in to see how you are doing!

Like Christina said, we are not medical professionals so cannot tell you 100% if it has come back but I can tell you my experience for sure.

My first surgery was ablation, meaning the doctor was not a specialist, it was really just exploratory, so he was not able to remove all of the endometriosis. However, it also meant my endometriosis most definitely grew back as well.

My last surgery was excision surgery in December. So far so good, but I know there is always a chance for endometriosis to grow back. My specialist was pretty certain he had gotten it all though and that it would not come back.

Was your surgery done by a specialist or reg gyn? Again, like Christina said, I would not base endo coming back just on your period. Sometimes, even months after surgery, your periods can still be a little crazy. Sometimes our bodies just take a bit longer to heal. I would definitely keep track of everything going on, when you are experiencing everything, how it feels, etc. And then maybe try calling your doctor up and talking with him or her. Or, if you haven't yet, try talking with an endometriosis specialist.

I hope though since you last posted you are doing well and have found relief! -Kimberli (Team Member)
