Endo Symptoms?

I’ve always had severe period pains since I started getting my period at 11. This would involve my first day of my period with vomiting, bad diarrhoea (sorry tmi!!), excruciating stomach pains to the point of not being able to walk, on verge and sometimes actually passing out.

I was put on the pill at 15 to help with the pain and was told I just had bad period pains because I’m young. Now I’m 24 and I’ve come off the pill (since March) and these severe periods are coming back in full swing! I get my period every 5-6 weeks and my flow id day is medium. I have had pain during sex at times but only in certain positions. I also get random spotting in between periods (not sure if that was my body adjusting to coming off the pill though!)

My doctor is running tests and I’m awaiting the results. She says she thinks it could be endometriosis. I understand the only way to diagnose (and temporarily help) is laparoscopy. She has said that she will write to the gynaecologist but chances are they will tell me to go back on the pill. She said she thinks I will have to go back on the pill or get pregnant?

I’m going to try push for a referral to get more details. But for the mean time, can someone tell me if they have had similar symptoms and what the outcome was? 😊 thank you!

  1. Thanks so much for sharing your story. I'm sorry to hear that you are going through all of this--ugh. All of the symptoms you describe are really common for endometriosis (yes, vomiting and diarrhea too). And while it's not unusual for young women just starting their period to have symptoms like this that improve, that clearly hasn't happened for you. I'm glad that your doctor has listened to you, and is involving a gynecologist. I completely support your plan to request a referral and see the gynecologist yourself, to discuss your options. Together you can make a plan that is best for you. Sending you best wishes. Please keep in touch here and let us know how things go! -Audrey (endo.net team)

    1. Thank you. I really appreciate the reply and support. I will keep you updated on how I get on! Really keen to get to the bottom of this.

      1. Hiya, I wanted to chime in and tell you that I have endometriosis and share those symptoms you describe. What you have, may or not be endometriosis, but yes, only a laparoscopy will provide you with a diagnosis. I've been on the pill, to stop periods and live a bit more stress-and-pain-free, but I had to try several hormonal treatments before finding the one that worked for me.

With regards to getting pregnant, it's not a cure, it only puts your symptoms (and periods on hold). Having endometriosis may also mean having some issues conceiving so beware of anyone that tells you to get pregnant to manage your symptoms.

I think speaking to a gyne or a specialist are the next steps for someone in your position, so know you are doing the right thing. And in the meantime, we are all here for you. Do reach out if you need some support or have any questions 😀 - Jessie (team member)

        1. Hi Jessie.
Thanks so much for your reply, I really appreciate it. I have done some research and am aware about pregnancy only putting your symptoms on hold, it makes me sad that doctors are suggesting and saying it’s the only way to fix it!

I will keep you updated. Fingers crossed get to the bottom of it!

          Thanks again 🤗

        2. We're right there with you with that frustration about some doctor's suggesting that. We're sending you all of our love and well wishes!!! 💛 Kayleigh, Endometriosis.net team
