Diagnostic LAP - no diagnosis

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this. I had a diagnostic LAP today that was scheduled due to 7 years of great pain and doctor visits, most pushing me away, and others loosely diagnosing endo. And then ultimately scheduled as I had a CT scan where they noted “suspected left sided hydrosalpinx”, which was followed by a pelvic ultrasound where my OBGYN confirmed spotting the hydrosalpinx as well as an endometrioma on my left ovary.

Before the surgery she “prepared me” to lose my left ovary as well as my left fallopian tube (due to the hydrosalpinx). She asked me if I would give confirmation to have my uterus removed and I told her not to touch my uterus. This was all quite overwhelming.

Then, the day of my diagnostic LAP, in post-op they told me that they didn’t remove anything or see anything and my pelvis looked fine. I’m feeling incredibly confused and absolutely crazy. This is taking quite a toll on my mental health. I have so many questions and doubts. I’m not sure where to go from here.

Has anyone experienced this as well?

  1. What a scary and confusing experience, . I am glad all was well, but they really had you prepared for the worst.
Unfortunately, imaging is rarely all that helpful in diagnosing endometriosis, so doctors don't know what they will find until they get in there. Doctors also don't like to go into great detail with patients in post-op because they often don't remember what they were told. It sounds like you were pretty lucid, but your might still have more to say at your follow-up appointment.
There are a lot of definitions of "fine" when it comes to women's health. It's possible that your doctor did find cysts and that those cysts were a source of pain, but that they were non-threatening and not indicative of endometriosis. Most ovarian cysts eventually go away on their own.
Its hard to say where the diagnosis of hydrosalpinx came from, but I would sure want to know, especially since two doctors saw evidence of it. When do you meet with your doctor again?
I hope you recover quickly and fully from the surgery and that you eventually figure out what is causing your pain. Please keep jus posted if you don't mind. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you so much for this feedback Lori.Foster, it’s greatly appreciated! My follow up is 12/5, and I’ll definitely have a list of questions to ask and get clarity on during that appointment. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!
