Diagnosed endo. Visible lump, not shown on ultrasound

Hello, I'm wondering if maybe you could help me. I have endometriosis, had my second surgery in July for removal of large endometrioma and ablation to endo. It's 5 almost 6 months on and my symptoms are back (symptoms include: bloating, indigestion, nausea, aching) and the lump in my belly is also back. I also have regular bowel movements. It's large and squishy and doesn't go away day or night but is obviously bigger when bloated. I had an ultrasound today and it didn't show any cysts. I'm wondering what on earth this lump could be? I'm at a loss.
Thankyou for your time, abby. Lump in abdomen

  1. hi there Abby. So sorry you are dealing with all of this. I know how frustrating and exhausting it can be. Unfortunately, with endometriosis, even after surgery, it can still grow back and cause symptoms. For some it happens a lot faster than others. Adhesions also can form from surgery and continue to cause symptoms like this. All which most likely wouldn't show up on an ultrasound. Have you talked to your doctor about this. I know the ultrasound did not show anything, but have they mentioned anything other to you? Have you tried reaching out to a GI doctor? Or possibly another doctor for a second opinion? Because we aren't medical professionals, I cannot give you an exact answer of what is causing that lump and discomfort 🙁 But I do want you to know you are not alone. Definitely something I deal with as well. I have found, a lot of it has to do with my gut and healing my gut. Diet change, lifestyle change, etc- are helpful sometimes. Hoping you do find answers and relief soon. Please keep us posted! -Kimberli (advocate)

    1. Like Kimberli, I wanted to say that we are here for you, and you are not alone. Although I've had four surgeries, I have not yet been able to solve the bloating. My stomach area often stays distended. As Kimberli mentioned, endo is notorious for coming back, even after surgery. If your current doctor didn't offer any solutions after seeing the ultrasound results, I agree that it might be time for a second opinion. For the last two surgeries, I had MRIs that found endo the ultrasound didn't detect, so that could be an avenue to pursue if it's affordable for you. And I also second what Kimberli said about working with your gut; it might be worth reaching out to a GI doctor or a nutritionist to try to tackle it from that angle. I wish you so much luck in figuring this out! ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate

      1. Hello! Could this be fibroids? In my case they could only see them after an MRI was done.

        1. ah yes! this is actually something that happened to me. Even with scans, they didn't see my fibroids. Wasn't until I had another surgery! So most definitely could be a possibility. Thank you your being here for our community members. How have you been doing? -Kimberli (advocate)

      2. Thankyou all for your comments. I'm currently waiting for a ct scan and another ultrasound. The ct has already been rejected once so hoping this time it won't. The lump is squishy, doesn't hurt itself. Doesn't show when stood up, only when laying down does the lump show. Thanks for the advice x

        1. hope they don;t reject the CT scan and you get all the things done you need for some answers. A community member above had a great thought too, maybe it could be fibroids. Doesn't hurt to ask. This was also something else I experienced, however, they didn't show up on my scan either. It wasn't until surgery where they found them 🙁 Just keep fighting for answers especially if you are feeling discomfort. Hoping you get answers soon. Do continue to keep us posted! -Kimberli (advocate)
