Are You Turning Olive Oil into a Trans Fat?
We’ve been warned to stay away from trans fats due to the harm they can cause our bodies. But, did you know that if you’re cooking with olive oil, you may be turning a “healthy” oil into a trans fat?
Cooking oils have smoke points – the point at which the oil begins to smoke and turns rancid wreaking havoc in your body. Olive oil is one that doesn’t have a high smoke point, and therefore, is best to be used as a salad dressing – not heated.
If you do need to cook with oil, use coconut oil. That’s the one that has the highest smoke point. Don’t like the taste? Select the refined (vs unrefined or raw) coconut oil.
