What You Need to Know if You Buy Canned Food

As a nutrition coach, I’m often asked if canned foods are okay to eat. The reality is that fresh is best, plain frozen foods would be next, and then canned would be last.

But, there are a lot of perks to canned foods. They’re great in a pinch if you haven’t been the grocery store in a while. For example, they enable you to have a veggie on hand for dinner. There is one rule about canned veggies, however, that is a non-negotiable in my book. Never buy or eat from a dented can. When a can is dented, the lining is compromised, enabling the BPA lining that we hear so much negative news about to leach into the food.
