Period with endo

How much is normal bleed and clot size/quantity with a period with endo ?
Has anyone period flow changed after endo surgery or barley any ?.
Any advice ?

  1. It probably varies from person to person, but blood clots are common with endo, as is heavy bleeding. See this article: https://endometriosis.net/living/bleeding-anemia

After surgery, I sometimes had lighter periods for a while, and then they would gradually become heavier again. Have you talked with your doctor about it? Does it seem like your periods are heavier now than before? ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate

    1. yes heavier since surgery and I haven’t spoken to my doctor as I’m not sure what they are able to do.

  2. Katrina is definitely right that flow varies from person to person, but that heavy bleeding and clots are common with endometriosis. But I'd suggest talking to your doctor if you've had menstrual changes that get in the way of your life and last more than a few cycles. And while there's a different "normal" for everyone, as a rule of thumb, my doctor has always told me to let her know if I bleed through more than 1 tampon an hour or if I have clots larger than a quarter.

I have pretty large clots and a pretty heavy flow the first two days of my cycle. I manage with lots of period panties and anti-inflammatory meds for the pain. And I pull back on activities. But there are medications for heavy bleeding that you can always talk to your doctor about! - Keri (health leader)

    1. Hey ,thanks for the advice .
I’m going through one overnight pad every 1 to 2 hours per day so changing many many times a day. Flooding a lot in the first 3 days of my cycle. Having to change my clothes at work cos I flooded is embarrassing and uncomfortable. I’m going to make another gyno appointment cos I’m so over the flooding/large regular clots and the cramps. Sorry to rant -feeling overwhelmed and bit disappointed that surgery relley hasn’t helped at all.

      1. Completely understandable to feel frustrated about this! It is uncomfortable and such a pain to manage. Sometimes hormone treatments like progesterone supplementation can help with heavy flow, so I think there may be things your gynecologist can do to help. Good luck! ~Katrina, Endometriosis.net Advocate
