Endo and IUD's

I had lapro surgery back in 2016 for Endo. I have had an IUD for 3 years and in those 3 years I was period free. Since March of this year I have started having period symptoms again. Cramping, back ache, pressure in the vaginal area and just general feeling like crap. When I went to the gyn back in August she tried to have me taking BC pills along with my IUD to try and suppress the period symptoms by taking it continuously without placebos but it honestly made everything feel like it was 10x worse. Has anyone else experienced this?

  1. Yes, I had one patient who had these symptoms with an IUD and birth control pills. One doctor recommended replacing the IUD because it was 2 years old and he believed it had exhausted its progesterone release. A new IUD helped the patient enormously!

    1. Also, this same patient who got her IUD replaced was also able to get off birth control pills. She feels much better. I hope this helps.

      1. Hi , thanks for sharing your experience here. I'll second ; while the progesterone IUDs are "supposed" to last 5-7 years, and the level of progesterone is enough to prevent pregnancy for that long, some people do have bleeding restart before that time is up. I have replaced IUDs early, and it did help. If you are feeling worse, I definitely suggest that you check in with your doctor again--she can review options with you and help you make a plan that works for you.
