Burning, tugging sensation on ovary?

I’m recently diagnosed with endo. Within the past two weeks i’ve developed a burning and tugging sensation on my right ovary. I’ve had ovarian cysts before and I’m not sure if this is one because usually my ovarian cysts sting and the pain crackles out through my pelvis. This pain is in a very specific location and it burns like hot coals and feels as if someone’s hooked up ovary with something and is yanking on it. my most recent ultrasound was a month ago and the ultrasound tech couldn’t see my right ovary. she said it was definitely there but she couldn’t get a good look at it. i’ve read about adhesions and am wondering if my ovary could be tethered to my bowels or other surrounding organs? and that could be why i have the tugging and pain. does anyone else have this specific kind of pain or have any info to share on endometriosis adhesions? Thank you!

  1. That sounds terrible! I was not having exactly the same sensations, but I had a super upsetting tugging feeling in my left ovary when I moved wrong. Turns out my ovary was tethered to my abdominal wall with endo tissue. Good news: I haven't had the pulling sensation since my excision! I sincerely hope you can also find relief. ❤️

    1. ouch! that sounds like that was so painful. But we are so happy to hear your surgery has brought you relief! We truly hope you continue to see that relief. And thank you for being here for our community members! Big hugs dear warrior <3 -Kimberli (advocate)

  2. I'm sorry you're experiencing pain like that. It is so uncomfortable and hard to find relief. I have stage 4 endo and I had many adhesions that caused pain similar to what you are describing. I had an MRI and they were able to see that my uterus was tethered to my bowel. I also had huge endometriomas on my ovaries causing issues. Is getting an MRI an option for you? I would suggest that as a next step to ask your doctor about. They may be able to see something an ultrasound missed.

Excision surgery gave me the most relief, but pelvic PT can help as well. Here are some articles to check out:

I have deep infiltrating endo (or DIE) and that is one potential reason that adhesions form: https://endometriosis.net/clinical/frozen-pelvis

I think it would be in your best interest to find the most expert gynecological surgeon you can and talk with them about your options. Please keep us posted and let us know if you have other questions!

    1. just wanted to say so sorry you are dealing with this. I know this feeling all too well. It has been
happening a lot lately. It definitely feels like it is something with my ovary, I am guessing adhesions. It is very
common with endometriosis for our organs to stick to other organs. I think your best bet is talking with an endometriosis
specialist if that is at all possible. Or like Katrina said, a very skilled and knowledgeable GYN. I know for me, ultrasound never
shows anything. It usually isn't until they are inside doing surgery, where they find all the things. But an MRI
could possibly be helpful if that is an option for you to get done! Just know, we are here for you, we are thinking
of you, and you can reach out anytime you need us. Sending you big hugs. I hope you find answers and relief soon.
