Liz R. Lebowitz, RN

Endometriosis Community Advocate Elizabeth R. LebowitzElizabeth was previously a health leader on Endometriosis.net.

Elizabeth R. Lebowitz is a Registered Nurse for over forty years. She has worked in busy metropolitan Medical Centers in a variety of Nursing and Administrative positions. Her professional career began as a staff nurse, went on to be a Nurse Recruiter and Employment Manager of a large city hospital, to more recent position as the Lead School Nurse for a Long Island School District.

During those years, her favorite happiest memories were of her raising her family at the beach. During that time, Elizabeth worked as a School Nurse. The varied opportunities offered fertile ground for teaching healthy lifestyles with our future generations. In her last position, in a busy High School Health Office, there was always a vast audience to educate early in an effort to change the culture of youthful and peer pressured activities, for example, sun worshipping embodied in the form of surfers, lifeguards and bathers, substance abuse, infection control, safety, and of course, learning about their changing bodies.

Over the years, so many issues find their way to the School Nurse spanning all age groups. As with many medical issues, using proactive and preventive strategies, early recognition and intervention, as well as treatment by health care professionals, comfort and outcomes can be enhanced.

Her own experience with endometriosis brought much discomfort during younger years. Current family history adds to the personal painful struggle. Reading the research has revealed much about this disease. Suffering in silence should be no more! Indications can be evident so early in a young woman's life. More and more health care practitioners need to be enlightened and aware of this female condition. School Nurses may see the patterns early on and offer appropriate care and referral for further medical attention. Finding a trusted gynecologist well-versed in endometriosis using state of the art treatment is imperative. Using one's voice in conjunction with medical guidelines can usher abundant relief.

As a recently retired Nurse, Elizabeth is looking forward to joining Health Union’s new site, Endometriosis.net, to continue advocating that “good health is your true wealth!”
